Product Information

Epimedium is a flowering plant native to China, Japan, and Korea. It is widely known as Horny Goat Weed around the world.

What is Horny Goat Weed?

Horny Goat Weed has several common names such as barrenwort, bishop's hat, and fairy wings. It has pro-erectile properties due to the presence of a phytochemical (icariin) [3]. Icariin is a prenylated flavonol glycoside and it is a derivative belonging to a category of flavonoid chemicals. Horny Goat Weed with icariin extract is considered the best aphrodisiac and is used in traditional Chinese medicine to combat sterility and enhance erectile function [4]. *

How Could Horny Goat Weed Support My Health?

In Chinese, Horny Goat Weed is known as Yin Yang Huo and it can be used as a dietary supplement to support the health of our adrenal system. The adrenal system is in charge of managing the human body's hormonal response to stress [9]. During stressful conditions, cortisol increases, resulting in exhaustion and low libido. Our Horny Goat Weed with icariin promotes energy and libido while supporting healthy cortisol levels. In men, it may support extended periods of intercourse and also stimulate sensory nerves (especially in the reproductive organs) to increase sperm production. It has shown positive effects on testosterone levels, the prostate gland and reproductive muscles that support healthy bedroom activity. In women, this supplement may support a healthy mood, bedroom disorders, and premenopausal challenges. Osteoporosis is the major underlying cause of fractures in postmenopausal women. There is a study that suggests that the use of icariin may support healthy bones in postmenopausal women and the elderly. Icariin helps to support bone health after an ovariectomy and may stimulate healthy osteoblastic functions [1][8]. *

Some studies have shown that Horny Goat Weed helps with joint health [10], respiratory health and as a carminative (relieves flatulence), works as an expectorant, supports healthy kidneys, supports lower back health, healthy blood pressure, and memory health. This herb is rich in sterols and protein which enhances neurotransmitters such as serotonin and boosts the function of our immune system. *

This herb also possesses potent cardiovascular protective functions [6]. Icariin possesses multiple functions (through multiple mechanisms), including attenuating DNA health, supporting endothelial function, inhibiting the proliferation and migration of smooth muscle cells, repressing macrophage-derived foam cell formation and healthy cell responses, as well as promoting anti-platelet activation. All of these protective effects, combined with its lipid-modulatory effects, contribute to the broad health remedies of icariin. *

In recent years, there has been a significant volume of research available on the healthy cell promoting effects of the main active compounds of Horny Goat Weed. A wide range of abnormal cell growth types such as osteosarcoma, prostate, lung, gastric and kidney cells are inhibited by certain active molecules. Certain ompounds exert their anticancer action via a multitude of cellular targets and through a variety of pathways including an apoptosis-inducing effect, cell-cycle modulation, anti-angiogenesis, anti-metastasis, and immunomodulation. Another interesting point to note is that they effectively target unhealthy stem cells and drug-resistant unhealthy cells. [3] *

Numerous reports are available on the synergistic effects of icariin in combination with other health remedies [3]. All studies showed a significant enhancement in combination health. Combination health is advantageous because it shows low toxicity in normal cells and no obvious adverse effects. *
